The Department of Sanskrit at our college was established in August 1964, marking the beginning of the institution's commitment to promoting the rich cultural heritage and intellectual legacy of India. The department was founded with the aim of enhancing knowledge of the Sanskrit language and literature, fostering an awareness of India's cultural and historical legacy, and encouraging interest in comparative literature and philology. Initially, the department offered a general course in Sanskrit, which was introduced on August 17, 1964. The growing interest in the subject led to the introduction of a specialized Sanskrit Honours course in the academic session 2005-2006, initially with an intake capacity of 30 students. In response to increasing demand, the intake capacity for the Honours program has since been expanded to 70 students. Currently, the department is supported by two full-time faculty members and five SACT (State-Aided College Teachers). The department takes great pride in the academic achievements of its students, many of whom consistently qualify with excellent marks and proceed to pursue higher education in Sanskrit and related fields. The department is committed to providing a well-rounded academic experience, with regular tutorial classes designed to offer personalized attention to students. This collaborative and nurturing environment has fostered a strong teacher-student relationship that enhances the learning experience. In addition, the department regularly organizes Parent-Teacher Meetings to monitor and support student progress. Beyond academics, the department encourages active participation in various college activities, including sports, NSS, NCC and cultural programs, ensuring that students are well-rounded and engaged in the wider campus community. The department has consistently demonstrated strong academic results since its inception. To further enhance students' skills, the department releases an annual departmental wall magazine, which serves as a platform for students to develop their Sanskrit writing abilities and showcase their talents. With its rich history, dedicated faculty, and committed student body, the Department of Sanskrit continues to thrive as an integral part of the college, fostering the study of one of the world’s oldest and most profound languages. |
